Today is not only the first day of school for students but also for three new GC School Resource Officers.
The Graves County School District is very pleased to announce we have been able to hire three additional law enforcement officers to serve our schools as School Resource Officers. These three officers join returning SROs Kevin Green and Mikey Turnbow, creating a district department of five highly experienced and dedicated individuals. Our goal is to have a full-time School Resource Officer assigned to each of our campuses and are actively seeking applicants.
Join us in welcoming officers Mike Gills, Ronnie Harvell, and Jason Riegler.
School communities had the opportunity to meet their School Resource Officers during the recent Back to School events. Director of Pupil Personnel, Robert Braden, was also in attendance. Together they were able to engage in safety conversations with families, reassuring that school safety is our top priority.
Along with the presence of additional school resource officers, our schools place vital importance on keeping doors locked and monitored by cameras, practicing safety drills, and hosting first responder visits. Trauma and Threat Assessment Teams are in place, as well as mental health professionals. Feedback is solicited from stakeholders, especially students, on the topic of safety as part of our continuous improvement efforts. Programs for positive behavioral intervention supports are embedded in all buildings, along with special groups such as the “Sources of Strength Program,” providing even more support.
Thank you SROs, and all GC staff, for your diligence in creating a safe and happy environment for our students to learn and thrive.
