Ashley Archer, Librarian at Graves County High School, displayed the book I Have a Dream as a "book walk" for students to enjoy and celebrate Martin Luther King Jr's legacy. A QR code at the beginning linked students to Martin Luther King's famous speech allowing them to listen to his voice as they looped the hallways surrounding the library reading the book. Beautifully illustrated by Kadir Nelson, the book's paintings showcase Luther's powerful words in a way that pays homage to both Martin Luther King and our diverse country.
Mrs. Archer has plans to do this each month with various authors and texts; in the warmer months, she’ll set them up outside.
“I am presenting book walks, in general, to emphasize the importance of literacy and feature historical figures who have made an impact on our society,” Mrs. Archer states.
Students and staff have taken advantage of this opportunity throughout the day, especially during HIPE class.
