New Safety Measures

With school safety at the forefront of our daily operations, the Graves County Board of Education has taken the step of purchasing weapon detection systems for each school in the district, adding additional peace of mind and protection for those dearest to us.

Installation and training for the active walk-through detection systems will begin next week. The systems should be in place after Thanksgiving Break.

All GC elementary schools and Graves County Middle School will be supplied with two weapon detection systems for main entrances. Graves County High School will have three systems, and Gateway Academy will also receive one.

The portability of the systems may make it feasible for use during community events in the future as well.

To make the lines more efficient, the technology's sophistication allows everyday metal items a seamless entry, such as keys, jewelry and water bottles. Chromebooks are the only anticipated common item that will need to be routinely worked around upon entry. A sample video provided by the company will be shared with students, parents and staff in preparation for the new morning routine.

We are excited to add these systems as an extra layer of security as our district continues to take proactive steps to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for our students, faculty and staff.
