GCSD Safety Meeting

The fall Graves County Schools Crisis Meeting was held today, September 8, 2022, at the GC Board of Education Office.  School district personnel, GC School Resource Officers, and local county, city, and state first responders were in attendance.

The district began by sharing appreciation for the outside agencies' support for our schools, students, and overall positive impact on our community.  Specifically mentioned were words of thanks for additional school building safety checks and campus patrol.

Graves County Schools DPP Robert Braden gave information regarding the district's latest safety efforts.  Some items included, among others, were security camera updates, planned installation of weapon detectors, district safety walks, programs for students' emotional well-being, and the goal of an SRO in every building.  Directors also shared facility and technology security updates with the group.  While many of these items have been in place for years, one of the main purposes of the crisis meeting is to review and refine our systems.

Collective discussion and brainstorming took place around ideas for continued improvement.  Individuals were given opportunities to address the group, offering resources and assistance as needed.  A repeated point of many was the benefit of the additional School Resource Officers hired by the district.  Currently, there are six police officers on the Graves County Schools SRO force, and GCSD is actively seeking two more.
