Symsonia Elementary has taken an outstanding and highly creative approach to review special procedures with their students by playing off their "Top School (Top Gun)" theme and holding a Kagan Bootcamp this week.
At the beginning of each year, all Graves County Schools are encouraged to review Kagan structures in their classrooms to promote a smooth transition to the new year while connecting to students' past learning experiences. Kagan structures are a variety of specially designed instructional strategies teachers have been trained to utilize across grade levels and content areas. They are implemented to enhance classroom engagement, participation, and communication, resulting in improved levels of student learning and collaboration.
Symsonia kicked off their week-long Kagan Bootcamp with a Camo Day, encouraging all staff and students to dress in camouflage. They have followed up their morning announcements daily with the entire school practicing a structure together. More structures were then reviewed throughout the day in the individual classes. Students that successfully participated each day earned a 'dog tag' and a special Kagan Bootcamp certificate at the end of the week.
