Veterans Day Assemblies were held Friday, November 11, 2022, across the district. The schools honored veterans through song, video, poetry, and heartfelt words of thanks.

At GCMS, teacher and veteran Conner Howard spoke to the crowd and emphasized to students what service before self truly means. Leadership students and GCMS Student Council members participated in the program, along with GCMS Choir, Band, and Orchestra students. The GCMS JROTC Color Guard's presence completed the picture of our great country's past, present, and future.

Graves County High School's event featured GCHS JROTC, Concert and Jazz Band, Choir, and Orchestra students leading the rest of the student body in a respectful, educational, and powerful program with gratitude for those who served our country. A flag ceremony also took place for the American flag flown at the Graves County Courthouse before the tornado struck last December. Days before the storm, it was spared destruction by being moved to the fairgrounds for an event. The flag was folded and will remain in safe keeping before it can once again fly above our hometown.

Today and always, we appreciate our veterans and the bravery of their service.  As Principal Janet Throgmorton said, closing out the GCHS ceremony, "Yes, today is a great day to be an Eagle, but more importantly, a great day to be an American!"
