Thank You Ms. Imogene

The Story of the Century (plus five years)!

Thursday, September 8, 2022, employees of The Bungalows of Mayfield, a local assisted living facility, drove up to the Graves County Board of Education with school supply donations for each of our buildings. The supplies were gifts that Ms. Imogene Monroe, a resident of The Bungalows, requested for her 105th birthday and had delivered on her behalf.

Ms. Imogene turned 105 earlier this week and asked family and friends to donate school supplies in honor of her big day. The facility helped her loved ones get the word out through local news outlets, and the ‘gifts’ began rolling in to support this sweet gesture.

Ms. Monroe is one of the oldest living Murray State University graduates. She spent her career of over 30 years as a math teacher for Lowes, Sedalia, and Mayfield High Schools. Once a teacher, always a teacher. Her heart, at 105 years old, was still in the classroom as she thought about how she wanted to celebrate her birthday.

On Friday afternoon, September 9th, Ms. Imogene was surprised before attending her highly favored bingo game by a group of Graves County High School students to thank her for the kind gesture. While Ms. Monroe spent most of her life wearing red, the students left her with a blue Graves County Eagles shirt and many well wishes for her birthday.

GCHS Senior Macy Marler asked Ms. Imogene about her secret to living a long, healthy life. She answered, “I don’t worry. I never have.”

Words of wisdom.
