Graves County High School Overview

GCHS excels in numerous other areas as well as academics. Extracurricular and co-curricular organizations form bonds between students with similar interests. They range from our multiple state-champion WGCE-TV, journalism, and forensics (speech and drama) programs to faith and character building through the Agape Club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and STOP (Students Taking On a Promise). Award-winning music programs include various bands and the only public school orchestral strings program in Kentucky’s 25 westernmost districts. A new state-of-the art performing arts center recently was added to the high school’s main building to showcase this exceptional talent. The Co-Ed Competition Cheerleading Squad has won three consecutive state championships and two straight national championships in the past three years. Numerous athletic teams and pep and spirit squads also excel. Members of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America are national award-winners. Other groups focus on academics, career exploration, community service, and technology.  GCHS has been earned the Bronze level on US News and World Report's Best High School list two consecutive years (2008 and 2009).
