Graves County Distributive Education Clubs of America members fare well in competition at 2019 state conference

Graves County High School members of the Distributive Education Clubs of America placed well in competition in Louisville at the 2019 DECA Conference. Among more than 1,000 students participating, some 31 Graves High members won trophies, medals, or honorable mention. Eight students advance to national competition.

“I am extremely proud of our kids this season,” said Graves’ DECA sponsor and teacher Michelle McKee. “We are looking forward to bringing home more wins at nationals. Every year, it keeps getting better. They don’t ever disappoint to prove the education aspect of the club.” Eight students advance to nationals in Orlando, Fla.

First place winners include Jacob Woods, Sports and Entertainment Marketing (test and presentation); Mason Waldridge, Kentucky Entrepreneurship Functions (test); and Dylan Howry, Kentucky Free Enterprise Basics (test).

Second place finishers include Maddie Evitts and Ally Brown, Business Law and Ethics Team Decision-Making Event (test and presentation); Audrey Lamb, Emily Oliver, and Rachel Reeves, Kentucky Web Page Advertising (collaborative test and original website design); Ellie Mitchell, Kentucky Entrepreneurship Functions (test); and Josie Erdmann, Kentucky Business Administration Core Career Cluster.

Third place competitors include Grant Phillips, Principles of Business Management and Administration (test and presentation); Macy Rodgers and Laken Shultz, Buying and Merchandising Team Decision-Making Event (test and presentation); Marley Mathis and Lauren McClain, Business Law and Ethics Team Decision-Making Event (test and presentation); Isaac Carrico, Kentucky Finance (test); and Max Wilson, Kentucky Sports and Entertainment Marketing (test).

Stage finalist medalists include Julia Barnett, Syndey Gream, and Kendall Tubbs, Start-Up Business Plan (Project and Presentation – “Savingo”); Hannah Beth Elliott, Reese Gream, and Elizabeth Irions, Start-Up Business Plan (Project and Presentation – “Green-on-the-Go”); Ellie Youngblood, Emily Oliver, and Angel Peralta, Innovation Plan (Project and Presentation – “Robo-Ref”); Clay Cooper, Business Finance (test and presentation); Mark Whitaker, Food Marketing (test and presentation); Emmy Travis, Kentucky Entrepreneurship Functions (test); Mason Grant, Kentucky Entrepreneurship Career Cluster (test); and Rachel Reeves, Kentucky Retailing Concepts (test).
