Modern Woodmen of America donate to Graves County Middle School Choir, matching their funds for projects

“Graves County Middle School started a fundraiser we’ve been doing for a few years now. It is for purchase of music, travel, and similar things,” said teacher Elaine Mitchell. “After I announced it, (choir member) Jenna Leath’s father, Greg Leath, emailed and said, ‘I think Modern Woodmen can help you out.’ That encouraged the kids to sell more, because we knew that would double their fundraising. Typically, we raise about $1,500. We were able to do that and Modern Woodmen matched those funds. So, we profited $3,000. We purchased tee-shirts for all the kids to wear for their concerts this year. We’re grateful for that and we still have money to spend on music and possibly a trip. Some of the kids came up with the idea of singing at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. That would involve more fundraising in some way. I thought that was really sweet that the kids weren’t thinking of themselves, but of bringing the joy of music to sick children. We’re really grateful to Modern Woodmen for their donation.” Pictured with the choir in the front at far left is Mitchell. At the right end of the check is Greg Leath. Standing to his right is his daughter, Jenna Leath, who made the connection between the two adults and their organizations.
